Business listings management

One name, one address, one phone number, everywhere your customers look

Google is one of a dozen places a buyer meets your business. Bing feeds Copilot, Apple feeds Siri and Apple Maps, Yelp feeds Alexa and half the AI assistants, and the data aggregators feed everyone else. We claim, complete and watch every one of them, so the details never disagree and the reviews never split across duplicates.

Citation building, NAP consistency, duplicate suppression and listing monitoring, reported from the platforms themselves.

  • 40+ platforms and directories
  • Monitored for rogue edits
  • Listings stay in your name

Why listings decide who gets the call

Prominence is built from agreement

Google ranks a local business on relevance, distance and prominence. Prominence is the one you can build, and a large part of it is how consistently the wider web describes you. When your name, address and phone number, the NAP, read identically on Google, Bing, Apple, Yelp and the directories that matter for your trade, each listing confirms the others. When they disagree, an old suite number here, a tracking number there, a former trading name somewhere else, the confirmations turn into doubt, and doubt costs positions in the map pack.

The second cost is quieter. A duplicate listing does not just confuse a customer; it splits your reviews. Ten five-star reviews on one profile and six on a duplicate look like two mediocre businesses to an algorithm and a shopper alike. Suppressing duplicates and merging what can be merged is often the single fastest rating improvement available, and it costs nothing in new reviews.

The third cost is new. AI assistants do not crawl your website first; they read the listings and the aggregators that already structure your data. Copilot reads Bing Places. Siri and Apple Maps read Apple Business Connect. Alexa, and several of the chat assistants, lean on Yelp. If those are thin or wrong, the assistant either recommends a competitor or describes you incorrectly, and no amount of on-site work fixes that.

  • Consistent NAP across every listing is a trust signal Google can verify without visiting your site
  • Duplicates split reviews, ratings and clicks, then compete with your real profile for the same searches
  • Category alignment matters: a listing filed under the wrong category earns visibility for the wrong searches
  • Aggregators push data downstream to hundreds of sites you will never log into, so their record has to be right first

What the service covers

What our business listings management includes

Every item below is done for you, logged in your monthly work report, and left in accounts you own.

Full citation audit

Every listing we can find for the business, on every platform, scored for accuracy against the details you confirm are correct. You see the disagreements before anything is touched.

Duplicate suppression

Duplicate profiles found, claimed where possible, merged or removed, and the reviews consolidated onto the profile that ranks. This is usually the first win and the biggest.

Bing Places for Business

Claimed, completed to the same standard as Google, and kept in sync, because Bing is what Copilot and a large share of desktop search runs on.

Apple Business Connect

Set up with categories, photos, hours and a proper description. Apple Maps and Siri return this data to every iPhone, and most businesses have never claimed it.

Yelp and review platforms

Completed and monitored. Yelp feeds Alexa and several AI assistants, and its rating shows in more places than most owners realise.

Data aggregators

Foursquare, Data Axle, Neustar Localeze and the feeds that push your details to hundreds of downstream sites. Fix the source and the copies follow.

Citation building

New listings on the directories that carry weight for your trade and market: the trade associations, the local chambers, the review platforms your customers actually use. Quality over count.

Category and attribute alignment

Primary and secondary categories, service lists and attributes matched across platforms, so every listing earns visibility for the searches you want rather than a random subset.

Hours, holidays and changes

Seasonal hours, holiday closures, a new phone system, a move: pushed to every listing at once, not discovered by a customer standing outside a closed door.

Monitoring for rogue edits

Google and Yelp accept public suggestions, and competitors and bots make them. We watch for changed hours, swapped categories and altered phone numbers and reverse them.

Tracked links and UTM tags

Every listing that allows a website link gets one with UTM parameters, so the analytics show which platforms send visits and which just exist.

Monthly listings report

NAP accuracy score, duplicates removed, listings live, impressions and actions where the platform reports them, and the work log for the month.

Platform by platform

The listings that matter, and what each one feeds

Not every directory is worth an hour. These are the ones that either rank, get read by an assistant, or push data to the ones that do.

Google Business Profile

The one that ranks

The profile behind the map pack. Managed weekly under our Google Business Profile SEO service; here it is the reference every other listing is checked against.

Bing Places for Business

Feeds Copilot and Windows

Roughly a third of desktop searches in some markets, and the data source for Copilot answers. Free to claim, almost always unclaimed, and it accepts a direct import from Google.

Apple Business Connect

Feeds Siri and Apple Maps

Every iPhone user asking Siri or opening Maps gets this record. It supports showcases, categories and photos. Most competitors have a bare placeholder here, which is an opening.

Yelp

Feeds Alexa and AI assistants

Its rating and category data flow into Alexa, into several chat assistants and into the review snippets other sites embed. The profile has to be complete even if the reviews mostly live on Google.

Data aggregators

Feeds everything downstream

Foursquare, Data Axle and Neustar Localeze syndicate to hundreds of directories, navigation apps and voice systems. Correct the aggregator record and the copies correct themselves over the following weeks.

Trade and local directories

Relevance, not volume

The association directory for your trade, the chamber of commerce, the review platform your customers actually use. Five of these outweigh five hundred generic submissions, which we do not do.

How the work runs

Listings management, step by step

The order matters: fix the source before building anything on top of it.

1

Confirm the source of truth

Before anything is submitted anywhere, you confirm the exact name, address format, phone number and categories. Every listing is then measured against that record, not against whatever was there first.

2

Audit every listing that exists

We find every profile on every platform, including the ones nobody remembers creating, and score each for accuracy, ownership and duplication. You get the full list.

3

Claim and fix the majors

Google, Bing, Apple and Yelp are claimed into accounts you own and corrected first, because they are what customers and assistants actually read.

4

Suppress duplicates and merge reviews

Duplicate profiles are claimed, merged or removed, and reviews consolidated onto the profile that ranks. Usually the largest single rating improvement available.

5

Correct the aggregators

The upstream feeds are fixed so the hundreds of downstream copies follow. This is slow to propagate and impossible to skip.

6

Build the citations that carry weight

New listings on the directories that matter for your trade and market, each completed properly with categories, description, photos and a tracked link.

7

Monitor and maintain

Rogue edits reversed, hours and holidays pushed everywhere, new duplicates caught as they appear, and the month's changes logged in your report.

Measured, not estimated

Reporting that comes from the platforms, not from us

Listings work is easy to fake because most of it is invisible to the client. So the report is built from things you can verify. The NAP accuracy score is a count: listings found, listings correct, listings fixed this month. The duplicates line names each profile removed or merged. Where a platform reports impressions and actions, as Google, Bing and Apple all do, those numbers are pulled from your own dashboards, which you have access to.

The work log lists every listing touched, what changed and when. If a directory took three weeks to accept a correction, that shows too. None of it needs taking on trust, and none of it is locked behind our login.

Buyer beware

What bad listings work looks like

Listings work is easy to sell and hard to see, which attracts a particular kind of package. These are the ones to refuse.

Submission to 500 directories

A bulk push to hundreds of sites nobody has heard of creates hundreds of records to keep correct forever, on platforms with no ranking or assistant value. Volume is the pitch; it is not the work.

Listings held in the agency's account

If the Google, Bing or Apple profile lives in the agency's account, leaving the agency means losing the listing or fighting for it. Every profile we claim is claimed into an account you own.

Ignoring the duplicates

A citation package that adds listings without first finding and suppressing duplicates makes the problem worse: more records, more disagreement, and reviews split further.

Tracking numbers as the listed phone

A call-tracking number entered as the business phone on one listing and not others is a NAP mismatch by design. Tracking belongs in the website link, not the phone field.

Set up once, never checked

Platforms accept public edits and competitors make them. A listing set up in January and unmonitored is a listing someone else is editing by June.

How to verify any agency, including us

Ask any agency, us included, for three things before you pay: a sample monthly report, written confirmation that you own your domain, website, hosting and Google Business Profile, and the work log from a current client's last 30 days. We show all three in your free audit call, plus reviews you can verify on Google and Trustpilot. An agency that hesitates on any of them has answered your question.

Business listings management: frequently asked questions

What is business listings management?+

Keeping every online record of your business, on Google, Bing, Apple, Yelp, the data aggregators and the directories that matter for your trade, accurate, complete, consistent and in your own name. It includes claiming listings, fixing the details, removing duplicates, building new citations where they carry weight, and monitoring everything for changes afterwards.

What does NAP consistency actually mean?+

Name, address and phone number spelled and formatted the same way on every listing. "Suite 4" on one and "#4" on another, or an old phone number on a directory you forgot, are the mismatches that weaken the trust Google places in your prominence. We settle one format with you first and hold every listing to it.

How many listings does a local business need?+

Fewer than most agencies sell. The four majors, the aggregators, and somewhere between five and twenty directories relevant to your trade and market. Beyond that, each extra listing is a record to keep correct with no ranking benefit. We build what carries weight and decline the rest.

Can duplicate listings really affect my rating?+

Yes, directly. Reviews left on a duplicate profile do not count toward the profile that ranks, so a business with 16 reviews split 10 and 6 shows as two smaller businesses. Consolidating them is often the fastest rating improvement available and costs no new reviews.

Do AI assistants really use these listings?+

They are the primary source. Copilot reads Bing Places, Siri and Apple Maps read Apple Business Connect, Alexa and several chat assistants use Yelp, and most of them read the aggregators. An assistant recommends what it can verify, and listings are what it verifies against.

Who owns the listings you set up?+

You do. Every profile is claimed into an account in your name, with our access added as a manager that you can remove. If you leave, everything stays where it is.

How long before listings changes show up?+

The majors update within days. Aggregator corrections take three to eight weeks to propagate to the downstream sites, and we report on that lag rather than pretending it away. Duplicate removals depend on the platform and can take a few weeks.

Is this included in your local SEO service?+

Yes. Business listings management is one of the standing tasks inside every local SEO and Google Business Profile campaign we run. It is offered on its own for businesses that only need the listings layer put right, or for agencies buying it white-label.

Do you use a listings tool or do it manually?+

Both, deliberately. Tools handle the aggregator feeds and monitoring; the majors and the directories that matter are claimed and completed by hand, because automated submissions produce the thin, half-filled profiles that this service exists to fix.

Can you fix a listing that someone else controls?+

Usually. Most platforms have an ownership dispute process, and we run it on your behalf with the documentation they require. Where a former agency holds a profile, we will tell you plainly what recovery involves and how long it takes.
